0:48Now PlayingA homeowner in Washington, DC, was applauded early on Tuesday, June 2, after he allowed up to 60 protesters to seek shelter in his house the night before as they fled from DC police.
Rahul Dubey, 44, opened his door to protesters just before the 7 pm curfew on Monday night. He told local media he was acting on instinct and let the protesters in because they were “absolutely decimated and beaten on the steps of my house.”
None of the protesters sheltering in Dubey’s home were arrested on Tuesday morning, reports said.
“I hope that my 13-year-old son grows up to be just as amazing as they are,” Dubey told ABC.
One protester said that Dubey’s action “saved lives.”
This video shows the group applauding minutes after the curfew was lifted at 6 am on Tuesday.
