Floyd attended Yates High School in 1993 where a vigil was held in his honor. Floyd's brother Rodney Floyd said he was known as a ''football star.'' Others who knew him also shared their memories of Floyd.
The event paid tribute to the life of Floyd who died two weeks ago, after a police officer pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes.
Floyd's death has sparked international protests and drew drawn new attention to the treatment of black people in the U.S.
