This footage was released by the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control on June 15. It was taken from an aircraft en route to monitor the fire, which is burning in Montezuma and La Plata counties.
Local officials issued mandatory evacuations in parts of both counties.
As of 10 am on June 15, firefighters “had zero containment” of the blaze, which was caused by a lightning strike two days prior, according to local reports.
The National Weather Service issued a “red flag” warning in the area for June 15 and 16 due to high temperatures, wind gusts, and dry conditions.
