1:10Now PlayingTwo Black Lives Matter demonstrators have appealed for protesters to stop being violent during protests in the US city of Portland.
Federal officers in Oregon's largest city used tear gas and flash grenades to disperse a large crowd of protesters on Wednesday night.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler was among those gassed.
Police say protesters have tried repeatedly to break into the federal courthouse and set fires around it and that the federal agents drive them back with tear gas and stun grenades.
But at least two protesters, both Black women, said other demonstrators are becoming violent, and it isn't helping the Black community.
Demonstrator Julianne Jackson commented "if white people want to help us, this is not helping us. Having brown bodies, having brown bodies damaged because you guys want to throw water bottles, because you guys want to do whatever, that's not helping us. Put your money, put your money in our community. Give our kids social programs."
