Coronavirus: Australia's Old-Age Homes See Covid-19 Spike in Victoria State

Australia's Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews says he has no confidence in privately-run old-age homes controlling Covid-19 as the state battles a second wave of infections. He admitted he wouldn't entrust his own mother to the care of some of the them.

Victoria reported 384 new infections and six deaths on Tuesday, down from a record 532 new cases on Monday.

Victoria state is now Australia's coronavirus hotspot.

The state is restricting non-urgent surgeries so that hospital nurses can be transferred to aged care homes where most Covid-19 deaths are occurring, Andrews said.

Andrews said care-home residents would be moved to hospitals if they were not being adequately protected from the pandemic.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the aged care situation in Victoria was "very concerning."
