0:51Now PlayingStrong winds and heavy rains lashed the island of Puerto Rico on Thursday, July 30, as Tropical Storm Isaias made its way through the Caribbean.
The National Weather Service in San Juan said the storm was packing sustained winds of up to 60 mph and producing “life-threatening flash flooding and gusty winds over Puerto Rico.”
The National Hurricane Center said it expected the storm to move over Haiti and the Dominican Republic on July 30.
The Autoridad de Energia Electrica (AEE) said on Thursday that 46 percent of the island’s 1.47 million residents were without power.
Dolores Martinez shared this video of the strong floodwaters on Calle Manantiales in Mayagüez with a caption that translates to, “The street in front of my house turned into a giant river!”
Oficina Municipal de Manejo de Emergencias (OMME) Director Israel Martínez Cuevas said that no evacuation warnings had been issued for the area as of noon on Thursday.
