2:00Now PlayingPresident Donald Trump predicted a "catastrophic" November election as mail-in voting expands to more states as a safety precaution during the COVID pandemic.
"This will be catastrophic for our nation, you will see it. I'm always right about these things," Trump said during a meeting with police leaders from across the country.
Trump has made clear he believes widespread mail-in voting would benefit Democrats. He has alleged - without citing evidence - that it will lead to massive fraud, and the Republican National Committee has budgeted $20 million to fight Democratic lawsuits in at least 18 states aimed at expanding voting by mail.
"You won't know the election result for weeks, months, maybe years after. Maybe you'll never know the election result. And that's what I'm concerned with. It'll be fixed. It'll be rigged," Trump said Friday.
A day after the president suggested on Twitter that the country delay the election due to potential fraud, on Friday, Trump said he wanted to "move it up."
"We're going to do very well in the election. Nobody wants that date more than me. I wish we could move it up. OK. Move it up," he said.
Asked about negotiations with Democrats on another cornavirus relief package, including extending unemployment benefits, Trump said the Democrats "know what I want." He didn't specify where the two sides are in the negotiating process or whether lawmakers had a plan to keep unemployment insurance from expiring by the end of the day.
