1:03Now PlayingThe Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that Russia sees "clear efforts of foreign interference" in protests in Belarus, as demonstrations continued over the official results of Sunday's election.
Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova's comments came as protesters took to the streets for a fifth straight day, despite police crackdowns on peaceful demonstrations, to protest against an election they say was rigged.
The results extended the 26-year rule of authoritarian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Speaking in a news conference in Moscow, Zakharova rejected claims that Moscow might have tried to influence the outcome of the Belarus elections.
"Any attempts to find some Russian footprint in the organisation of unrest in the country are groundless," she said.
She insisted that Russia remained a "solid ally and friend" to the former Soviet nation.
Thousands of people have rallied all across Belarus since Sunday, demanding a recount of the ballot that gave Lukashenko a landslide victory with 80% of the vote, and his top opposition challenger only 10%.
Police broke up the protests with batons, stun grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets.
