Sep 8, 20201:46Now Playing(AP) Argentina's government confirmed 10,000 coronavirus deaths, five months since some of the world's strictest lockdown measures began.
The country's health ministry said that the total now stood at 10,129 deaths, while those infected number 488,007.
The South American country at first seemed to have the virus under control, but five months later the outlook has changed completely.
The economic crisis and quarantine fatigue has caused Argentines to withdraw support of the strict measures, while authorities have also relaxed some restrictions.
For Liliana González, who was infected while working in a geriatric home, recovery is still a work in progress. Three months after getting rid of the virus, she still feels tired and weak.
"I don't know if I'm going to return to a normal life, I don't know if I'm going to be how I was before," she said.
Argentina surpassed the 10,000 death mark days after the Argentine Intensive Care Society warned that hospitals will soon reach their limits. The government reported on Monday that bed occupancy in intensive care units is almost 62% nationwide and 67.8% in the AMBA (Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area).
