The storm was on track to hit New Orleans directly, but changed course overnight Monday into Tuesday, moving eastward toward the Mississippi-Alabama state line instead, reports said.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) on Tuesday morning discontinued a tropical storm warning it had issued for Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and the metropolitan New Orleans area.
The hurricane was expected to make landfall Wednesday morning.
