1:24Now PlayingSenate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to answer reporters' questions Friday on whether he has been tested for COVID-19 since he attended White House event last Saturday.
"We are practicing, following the CDC guidelines," said McConnell during an event in Georgetown, Kentucky. "I'm not going to answer questions about when, we are following the guidelines that we are given by the CDC."
This comes after President Donald Trump, his wife Melania, a top aide and Utah Sen. Mike Lee all tested positive for the coronavirus.
McConnell did say he spoke by phone with Trump who’s in “good spirits,” and the two talked mostly business.
“Full steam ahead,” McConnell said about the Senate GOP’s plans for quick confirmation of Trump’s nominee Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
"Look, we're operating both when we're in session and when we're not in session successfully," said McConnell.
He added: "So far, the disease has not kept us from operating as we would normally. And there's no reason to expect that to be the case in the foreseeable future."
For most people, the virus causes mild or moderate symptoms. But it can cause severe symptoms in and be fatal for others, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
