0:50Now PlayingBritish Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Saturday he had telephoned members of US President Donald Trump's family to wish him and the First Lady a speedy recovery after it was announced they were both receiving treatment for COVID-19.
Johnson himself spent a week in hospital after contracting the virus, including three nights in intensive care.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to a construction site in West London, Johnson also said that "there’s a good deal to be done" with the European Union on post-Brexit trade, as he prepared for crunch talks with the head of the bloc’s executive arm.
Johnson told reporters that the UK wants a free trade deal along the lines of the one the EU has with Canada.
He and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will try to break an impasse in negotiations during a video conference later Saturday.
Britain left the EU politically in January after more than 45 years of membership, but remains economically tied to the bloc until a Brexit transition period ends on Dec. 31.
The two parties are trying to strike a rudimentary trade deal before then, to avoid a barrage of uncertainty, tariffs and red tape that would hurt economies on both sides.
On the battle against the coronavirus in the UK, Johnson said it was vital that everybody worked together to get cases down.
