8:00Now PlayingFrench President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday visited the mountainous area of Saint-Martin-Vesubie in southeastern France to meet people affected by devastating flooding over the weekend. Flooding through Saint-Martin-de-Vésubie, Tende and other villages destroyed bridges, blocked roads and isolated communities.
The President said it could take months to rebuild the buildings, roads and bridges that will allow the area in the Alps to get back to normal life, but promised government aid to flood victims.
Residents told him their distress after the flooding, which has affected large areas of France and Italy in the alpine regions.
Macron said the death toll in France's Alpes-Maritimes region had risen to five dead and at least 20 people are missing.
He travelled by helicopter to go from one village to another in the mountainous area near the Mediterranean coast.
