Dozens of people were arrested in Washington during protests over Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation hearing on Thursday, October 15, local media reported.

Local media reported at least 26 protesters were arrested near the United States Supreme Court building on Thursday, the fourth and final day of Barrett’s confirmation hearings.

This footage, filmed by Twitter user @KuzyBeCackling, shows a person being detained by police in Washington. In the video, the person says “apparently they are arresting me because I am resisting arrest. This is ridiculous.”

The person being detained identified themselves as the founder of Black Terps Matter, a grassroots organization that aims to dismantle racism at the University of Maryland, according to its website.

Barrett’s nomination, following the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, sparked controversy due to the proximity of the presidential election on November 3.

The Washington Post said Senate Republicans think Barrett will “forge a new and prominent path as a conservative, religious woman who opposes abortion.”

A vote on Barrett’s nomination has been scheduled for October 22, according to reports.
