Trump plans to hold a rally Thursday afternoon in Greenville
The president won the state in 2016.
The in-person early voting option, which continues until Oct. 31, allows someone to vote at any voting center in their county of residence. People can also register to vote and cast a ballot at the same time during the early voting period.
More than 60% of the total ballots cast during the 2016 presidential election in North Carolina were cast through early in-person voting, or nearly 3 million votes.
That percentage is likely to drop in 2020 as more 500,000 absentee ballots have been turned in so far - 10 times more than had been cast by mail at this point in the 2016 election.
Trump will then head to Miami to compete with rival Joe Biden for TV audiences in dueling town halls on Thursday night instead of meeting face-to-face for their second debate as originally planned.
Trump also commented on an ongoing trade dispute with the European Union.
International arbitrators said Tuesday that the European Union can impose tariffs and other penalties on up to $4 billion worth of U.S. goods and services over illegal American support for plane maker Boeing.
The move further sours transatlantic ties at a time when the coronavirus has doused trade and savaged economies.
The ruling comes a year after another ruling authorized the United States to slap penalties on EU goods worth up to $7.5 billion - including Gouda cheese, single-malt whiskey and French wine - over the bloc's support for Boeing rival Airbus.
