Crockery, eggs and flour were thrown at emblematic buildings in Barcelona Friday during a protest by catering workers against coronavirus closures.

Workers in the catering sector in Barcelona and around Catalonia protested outside the city hall and regional presidency headquarters.

Bars and restaurants close from Friday for two weeks in Spain's northeastern Catalonia region, amid one of Europe's sharpest resurgences of the new coronavirus.

Angry caterers threw crockery at the Barcelona City Hall and eggs and flour were also thrown at the regional presidency, both buildings are in the Sant Jaume square.

Police protecting the presidency building donned helmets as protesters screamed abuse at regional politicians.
