Calling for a "Team Canada effort," Justin Trudeau asked residents Tuesday "to keep following the guidelines of their local public health authorities."
"When you wear a mask, limit your in-person close contacts and use the free COVID alert app you're doing your part," Trudeau said.
He warned against the "noise and harmful misinformation about on the internet."
"The best thing Canadians can do," Trudeau said, is listen to experts, doctors and people "who are focused on keeping them safe every single day."
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks.
For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.
