1:08Now PlayingDolly Parton has been speaking of her happiness that her million-dollar donation to coronavirus research helped to develop the Moderna vaccine, which early data reveals is 95 percent effective.
Appearing on NBC News' "TODAY" show, Tuesday, the star explained she had just wanted to "do good" with her contribution.
"I'm just happy that anything I do can help somebody else. And when I donated the money to the COVID fund, I just wanted it to do good. And evidently it is, let's just hope we find a cure real soon," she said.
In April, the country music star posted to her 3.6 million followers on Instagram that she had donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University's Medical Center in honor of her friend, Dr Najj Abumrad.
"My longtime friend Dr. Naji Abumrad, who's been involved in research at Vanderbilt for many years, informed me that they were making some exciting advancements toward research of the coronavirus for a cure," Parton wrote.
The official prelimary report on the Moderna vaccine names the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund as a supporter, along with other organizations.
