0:52Now PlayingWorkers began at dawn on Monday morning to set up the Vatican Christmas Tree in St. Peter's Square.
The 30-meter-high red spruce weighing seven tons was pulled up by a crane right in front of the St. Peter's Basilica and next to the obelisk.
The tree was provided by the city of Kočevje, Slovenia.
The Vatican Christmas tree will be accompanied by the no less traditional nativity scene, which is being provided this year by the town of Castelli, in the Abruzzo region.
The nativity scene will be composed by larger-than-life ceramic statues and will be inaugurated on December 11 respecting the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the day of the lighting ceremony, a delegation from Castelli and Kočevje will meet with Pope Francis for the official presentation of the gifts.
