Dec 4, 202047:34Now PlayingFormer President Barack Obama rallied on Friday for two Georgia Senate candidates that will determine control of the U.S. Senate.
He took part in a virtual get out the vote rally for Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock.
Stacey Abrams, the former Georgia House minority leader who lost a razor-thin race for governor in 2018, also took part.
Since 2018, Georgia Democrats and aligned groups, including Abrams' Fair Fight, have registered hundreds of thousands of new voters.
President Barack Obama was emphatic that Biden's win in Georgia wasn't enough.
"The promise of the Biden presidency and the Harris vice presidency rests in part on their ability to have a cooperative posture with Congress. And to do that, we have to have the two gentlemen who are running for Senate in Georgia, Raphael Warnock and John Ossoff there to help move that agenda forward.
Republicans need one more seat to command a Senate majority that could counter a Biden presidency. Democrats need a sweep to force a 50-50 Senate and set up Harris, the vice president-elect, to tilt the chamber to Democrats as the tiebreaking vote.
He added: "The Senate is a place where even with a big majority, it's tough to get legislation through. And if you don't have a majority, if the Senate is controlled by Republicans, who are interested in obstruction and gridlock rather than progress and helping people, they can block just about anything."
