The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Defense announced they would begin shipping Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine immediately following its FDA approval in the U.S. on Friday night.
The U.S. is starting Covid-19 vaccinations within days after the government approved a shot by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE for emergency use. It also doubled its order for a Moderna Inc. vaccine that’s in the pipeline to 200 million doses.
Record U.S. deaths and new cases on Friday underscored the urgency of vaccinations, which are due to arrive at the first administration sites on Monday. New Jersey reported record new cases on Saturday.
