The ball will descend to the bottom of the pole at the stroke of midnight atop the One Times Square building.
Normally a draw for tens of thousands in the heart of Manhattan, this year's celebration has been scaled down to accommodate COVID-19 restrictions.
Revelers can still watch from home on television and online.
Although the New Year's Eve festivities will features concerts and live performances, just a limited group of first responders have been invited to watch in person.
