0:55Now PlayingProtesters marched through Manhattan on January 10 in response to a rumored “MAGA March” in support of Donald Trump, according to local media reports.
Posts from social media users on Twitter and Facebook indicated plans for a pro-Trump rally on January 10 near Columbus Circle in Manhattan. A counter-protest was organized in response by United Against Racism & Fascism NYC, a New York City-based coalition opposing “racism and bigotry.”
Counter-demonstration organizers asked protesters to meet at 9.30 am in Central Park near the intersection of 59th Street and 6th Avenue, according to the event’s flyer. The demonstration’s flyer called for protesters to help “keep the far-right and Proud Boys out of NYC.”
Joshua Potash filmed this footage of a crowd of counter-protesters marching through Manhattan, with the first video showing the crowd near the intersection of 59th Street and 7th Avenue. The clips show protesters chanting “F*** the Proud Boys,” carrying shields, and toting a Black Lives Matter banner. The footage also shows a person dressed as a police officer and wearing a pig mask.
Trump supporters were not clearly identified in the footage. Additionally, local media reported that there were no “MAGA demonstrators in sight” during the January 10 event.
