19:55Now PlayingSenate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Monday that all parties are finalizing a resolution to outline the rules in the impeachment trial of Former President Donald Trump.
"I'm proud to report each side will have ample time to make arguments. If the managers decide they want witnesses, there will be a vote on that," Schumer said.
He also said the parties agreed to suspend the trial for the Jewish Sabbath, which begins at sundown on Friday, to accomodate a request by one of Trump's attorneys.
In that event, the trial would resume Sunday afternoon, he said.
Meanwhile on the issue of a COVID-19 relief bill, Schumer was joined at the news conference by House Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who, along with Schumer, voiced resistance to compromising with Republicans on the size and scope of the bill, saying that the current package has bipartisan support among voters.
"The choice is in the Republican conference, if they want to actually reflect that support among actual Republicans throughout the country. But our number one priority is to help people," she said.
