The former US Air Force personnel were welcomed to the new service by Chief of Space Operations Gen. John Raymond, who called it "a once-in-a-lifetime journey that we will navigate together."
President Donald Trump in 2019 authorized the creation of the U.S. Space Command to preserve American dominance on what he called "the ultimate high ground."
The Space Force will be headquartered in Huntsville, Alabama.
