9:44Now PlayingVice President Kamala Harris holds a virtual town hall with members of Congress and leading women's advocacy groups to highlight the need for the American Rescue Plan, especially to help women who have suffered during the pandemic.
"We all know this our economy cannot fully recover unless women can participate fully," said Harris on Thursday.
"So I believe I think we all believe this isn't a national emergency. Women leaving the workforce in these numbers. It's a national emergency and it demands a national solution."
Women reported they are twice as likely than their male counterparts to leave their employer in a year's time due to their workplace experience during the pandemic.
The impact of COVID-19 continues to leave many struggling, particularly working moms, who are trying to juggle day-to-day lives and childcare on top of their careers.
"We do believe that the American rescue plan is a very big part of the solution to this issue and in many ways, one, it will get immediate relief to women workers," said Harris.
"Including fourteen hundred dollar checks to those who need it and at least three thousand dollars in tax credits to parents for each of their children. And the beauty of the significance of this is by doing that, we will lift up nearly half of the children who are living in poverty in our country."
President Joe Biden's $1.9 Trillion rescue plan also allots $400 billion to spearhead a national vaccination program and the reopening of schools.
And it includes a raise in the the minimum wage to $15 and aid for state and local governments, a nonstarter for most Republicans.
