1:58Now PlayingGov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday touted what he's calling New York state's largest vaccination site, a site that could vaccinate as many as 3,000 qualified New Yorkers per day and up to 21,000 per week.
The center, located at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, will be jointly managed by state and federal officials, he said. It's scheduled to open Wednesday.
Cuomo added the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be setting up special bus routes to help people get to the center.
In an effort to create equity and accelerate access of the vaccine to communities of color, Cuomo said all neighborhoods surrounding the site will get appointment priority, including East New York, Brownsville, Sumner Houses, Broadway Triangle, Ocean Hill, Stuyvesant Heights, Crown Heights, Bushwick, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Canarsie, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, East Midwood, Prospect Heights and Clinton Hill.
"You can walk in and make an appointment, but the vaccine only works if people take it. It only works if there's a needle in the arm," he said.
