1:26Now PlayingSeveral thousand protesters gathered near the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kyiv, clashing with police as demonstrators attempted to break through cordons after an activist from Odesa was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
Serhiy Sternenko, the video blogger and former leader of the nationalist Pravy Sektor organization in question, was attacked several times by his opponents in 2018, one of whom died. The court in Odessa ruled today that Sternenko was guilty of robbery and illegal possession of non-lethal weapons.
Thousands of people are still protesting against the court ruling in Odesa and Lviv and several hundred protested in Kharkiv. Protesters say that the kidnapping case against Sternenko was fabricated. Kyiv protesters escalated tensions by throwing flares at policemen.
