1:16Now PlayingThe Director at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning Americans to remain vigilant against the coronavirus as the 3rd vaccine is rolled out.
"I want to really keep our eye on the fact that we... that cases are increasing right now slightly and but they are," said Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
"So the goal is not to sort of open up travel, open up all of these things because people are scaling up vaccination. The goal of those first hundred days has always been to make sure that we are in a place to be out of this pandemic. At 70,000 cases per day we're not in that place right now."
Johnson & Johnson has shipped out nearly 4 million doses of the newest COVID-19 vaccine to be delivered to states for injections starting on Tuesday.
The company will deliver about 16 million more doses by the end of March and 100 million total by the end of June, but the distribution would be backloaded.
That adds to the supply being distributed by Pfizer and Moderna, and puts the nation on track to meet the goal of having enough injections to vaccinate most adult Americans later this year.
The White House is encouraging Americans to take the first dose available to them, regardless of manufacturer.
"As a unified nation and as individuals, including whether and when to get vaccinated, will determine how quickly we can stop this pandemic and what what life will look like in the coming months ahead," said Walensky.
"The most important thing you can do is to be ready to get the vaccine that is available to you. It will help protect us all from COVID-19."
