3:30Now PlayingPresident Joe Biden held the first formal press conference of his term on Thursday, more than two months after taking office, making him the first U.S. leader in four decades to wait this long before a Q&A with reporters.
Here's what we learned:
He plans to run for re-election. Biden said he expects to run again in 2024 with Harris on the ticket and scoffed at the idea of a rematch against Trump: "I have no idea if there will be a Republican Party."
Vaccine goal doubled. Biden pledged the U.S. will administer 200 million shots by the end of his first 100 days in office. "I know it’s ambitious," he said. "I believe we can do it."
U.S. may respond to North Korea missile tests. Biden said he's open to diplomacy with Pyongyang but warned recent missile tests violated international rules and could prompt a response.
Afghanistan withdrawal by May 1 in doubt. Biden said he's committed to pulling out U.S. troops but not by the looming deadline set by Trump. "We will leave. The question is when we leave."
Most migrants turned away at border. Biden made "no apology" for undoing some of Trump's immigration policies and said most migrants, except for children, are being sent back.
