Biden spoke from the White House hours after former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder in Floyd's death last May.
The president said the verdict can be "a giant step forward" for the country against systemic racism. But he said of the verdict, "it's not enough...We can't stop here."
Biden lauded the officers who testified in the trial instead of closing ranks and keeping quiet. He says the verdict sends a strong message, but reform can't stop with just the verdict.
"In order to deliver real change and reform, we can and we must do more to reduce the likelihood that tragedies like this will ever happen and occur again," Biden said.
He said real reform is crucial to ensure Black and brown people don't fear interaction with law enforcement.
"We have a chance to begin to change the trajectory in this country. It's my hope and prayer that we live up to the legacy," Biden said.
