2:49Now PlayingLed by House Majority Leaders Steny Hoyer, House Democrats tabled a GOP motion to censure Rep. Maxine Waters, who told protesters in Minnesota Monday that “we’ve got to get more confrontational” if Derek Chauvin isn’t convicted of murder.
Jurors in the case returned with guilty verdicts on all charges against the former Minneapolis police officer late Tuesday afternoon.
House lawmakers voted on Hoyer's motion shortly before jurors delivered the guilty verdicts.
The final vote to table the GOP's motion to censure was strictly along party lines. The final tally was 216 to 210.
On Monday, after the jury got the case, Judge Peter Cahill rejected a defense request for a mistrial based in part on the comments from California Rep. Maxine Waters.
The judge called her comments “abhorrent” and “disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch.”
Hoyer expressed particular anger over House Republicans' refusal to take action against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green for retweeting a tweet suggesting violence against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
I understand it was not her words, but she retweeted those words, which said if you want to shut Pelosi up, a bullet to the head will accomplish that objective, Hoyer said on the House floor.
"It is frankly exploiting the pain of so many families and communities to turn Chairwoman Waters concern for justice into a partisan cudgel."
