1:53Now PlayingCity leaders say they support the sweeping Department of Justice probe announced Monday into policing in Louisville, Kentucky over the March 2020 death of Breonna Taylor, who was shot to death by police during a raid at her home.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, a Democrat, says good officers will welcome the probe as he does.
"We have much more work to do," said Fischer, adding "I strongly welcome the announcement made by Attorney General Merrick Garland."
Louisville Police Chief Erika Shields said the probe is necessary not just in Louisville, but in nearly every agency across the country.
Shields said if Louisville is "going to be one of the flagship departments for change, then bring it on."
The 26-year-old Taylor, an emergency medical technician who had been studying to become a nurse, was roused from her sleep by police who came through the door using a battering ram.
Her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired once. A no-knock warrant was approved as part of a narcotics investigation. No drugs were found at her home.
