0:51Now PlayingIntense heat buckled pavement and forced lane closures in Seattle on Monday, June 28, officials said, as the temperature soared to 104 F.
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) shared footage of damaged pavement on the northbound side of Interstate 5 at NE 195th St on Monday. Two center lanes were blocked as a result, WSDOT said on Twitter.
The necessary repairs were completed overnight and all lanes were reopened by Tuesday, WSDOT said.
An excessive heat warning was in effect for northwest and central Washington until Tuesday night, as “dangerously hot” conditions continued, with a heat index of 101 F possible on June 29.
