1:09Now PlayingThe US ambassador to the United Nations warned of a "swift and strong military response" to any actions targeting US personnel in Afghanistan as Taliban forces have taken the country's capital.
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday to discuss the devolving situation in the country as the US scrambles to evacuate its personnel.
"Civilian populations, including journalists and noncombatants, must be protected. Attacks against civilians or civilian objects must stop," she said.
Thomas-Greenfield also promised the US would "be generous" in resettling displaced Afghans in the US, and called on other nations to do the same.
