2:29Now PlayingEvacuation flights resumed at Hamid Karzai International Airport Tuesday after being suspended on Monday, when thousands of people rushed the airport.
The Biden administration said U.S. commanders are communicating with the Taliban as they work to evacuate thousands of people through the airport.
"Throughout the night, nine C-17s arrived, delivering equipment and approximately a thousand troops. Additionally, seven C-17s have departed. These flights lifted approximately 700 to 800 passengers," said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.
"And we can confirm 165 of these passengers are American citizens. The rest are a mix of SIV (Special Immigrant Visa) applicants and third country nationals," she said.
