Aug 27, 20211:11Now PlayingBritish Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Friday evening that two U.K. nationals and the child of another Briton were among those killed in the attack at Kabul airport.
He said the U.K. would "shift heaven and earth" to evacuate those left behind after the airlift ends.
Britain has evacuated almost 14,000 U.K. citizens and Afghans from Kabul in an airlift that is in its final hours Friday.
Johnson conceded that "there will sadly be people who haven't got through, people who might qualify," and said the U.K. would make safe passage out of Afghanistan for such individuals a condition for Western engagement with the Taliban.
He added that the timing of the withdrawal is "certainly not the one this country would have chosen," but defended the evacuation effort as "quite remarkable."
