0:51Now PlayingA man dangling from the end of a rope attached to a military helicopter flying over Kandahar on 30 August might look like he is the victim of the Taliban's famed brutal justice.
But officials and an eyewitness in Kandahar told The Associated Press that the man was in fact a volunteer who was flown up to fix a pole that the Taliban were trying to raise their flag on.
Looking closely at the video it is visible that the man is held by a harness.
He went up to try to get hold of the end of the cable by which the flag is attached to the pole, an eyewitness said.
Apparently the attempt was unsuccessful.
