1:45Now PlayingBritish Prime Minister Boris Johnson insisted Tuesday that the country's fuel supply crisis was easing.
After several days of filling stations running out of petrol, sparking panic-buying and long traffic queues, he suggested things were now getting back under control.
"We now are starting to see the situation improve," he said. "We're hearing from industry that supplies are coming back onto the forecourts in the normal way."
Long lines of vehicles formed at many gas stations since the crisis started towards the end of last week.
Johnson blamed a shortage of truck drivers, which he suggested was caused by world economies surging as they recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Despite the government having announced it will issue thousands of emergency visas to foreign truck drivers to alleviate the crisis, Johnson insisted that inviting migrant workers was not the solution, as it would lead to a "low-wage, low-skill" economy.
