1:15Now PlayingFrench President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that the European Union "cannot be taken hostage with manipulations" when it came to dealing with Belarus.
His remarks come as the EU prepared new sanctions to prevent a security crisis at its borders blamed on President Alexander Lukashenko.
The EU has said that Lukashenko is carrying out a “hybrid attack” using migrants to destabilise the bloc in revenge for sanctions targeting him over contested elections last year that won Belarus’s hardline leader yet another term in office and the security crackdown on peaceful protestors that followed.
Speaking alongside Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas in Paris, Macron said that the EU would continue to "put pressure on Alexander Lukashenko to put an end on these unacceptable actions."
