YouTube Description
as posted by the channelGerman Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday stressed the need to keep some ambiguity about possible sanctions in order to press Russia to de-escalate the Ukraine crisis.
He was speaking after meeting US President Joe Biden at the White House for talks dominated by the buildup of over 100,000 Russian troops near Ukraine, which has fueled Western worries of a possible offensive.
Scholz said Western allies had "intensively prepared" for the necessary sanctions if there is any military aggression against Ukraine, in order for Moscow to "clearly understand" that it would face "far-reaching, severe measures" if it entered Ukraine.
But he went on to state that it was "part of this process that we do not spell out everything in public because Russia could understand that there might be even more to come".
