En route from a summit of European leaders, where the U.S. and European Union unveiled an agreement to help Europe wean itself off Russian fuel imports, Biden met with U.S. troops in eastern Poland not far from the Ukrainian border. Hours earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the U.S. and EU of aiming to “destroy” Russia through “hybrid war, a total war,” in comments made in Moscow.
As Ukrainian troops seek to push Russian forces further from Kyiv, the southeastern port city of Mariupol said that around 300 people were killed when Russian forces struck a theater there this month. The U.S. and its allies warned Russian leader Vladimir Putin against using biological, chemical or nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
