53:06Now Playing(Apr. 12) Watch live as New York Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell and NYPD executives brief the media regarding a shooting inside a subway station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, that wounded at least 13 people on Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
Several people were shot and wounded as numerous undetonated devices were discovered inside a subway station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
Authorities initially responded to reports of smoke at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the 36th Street station, which serves the D, N and R lines. First responders encountered 13 people injured, according to an FDNY spokesperson.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was on the scene, and the FBI said it also was responding. There are no active explosive devices, the NYPD said on Twitter shortly before 10 a.m.
Police said they were searching for a Black man with an orange construction vest and a gas mask who is about 5 feet, 8 inches and weighs about 175 to 180 pounds.
Service has been halted on the D, N and R trains in Brooklyn and some stations in Manhattan, and commuters were told to expect major delays on those lines as well as the B, F and Q. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority urged riders to take alternate subway or bus lines.
All subway trains have been moved into stations, and officers are inspecting all stations and trains as part of its investigation, the NYPD said on Twitter.
