0:19Now PlayingUkrainian police have seized numerous luxury objects from an opulent property outside Kyiv that belonged to arrested pro-Russian politician and oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk, police said on Tuesday.
Paintings, luxury watches, fur coats and hats, antiques and trinkets and even a historical train wagon were seized by police as part of a raid following a criminal investigation into Medvedchuk's wife Oksana Marchenko.
According to the Department of Strategic Investigations spokesperson Natalia Kalinovska, the property will be auctioned off and the winnings will go to supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Following her husband's arrest earlier this month, Marchenko gave a press conference in Moscow, where she condemned the arrest and maintained Medvedchuk's and her own innocence.
Medvedchuk was detained last Tuesday in a special operation carried out by Ukraine's state security service, or the SBU.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed that Russia could win Medvedchuk's freedom by trading Ukrainians now held captive by the Russians.
The 67-year-old oligarch escaped from house arrest several days before the hostilities broke out February 24 in Ukraine.
He is facing between 15 years and a life in prison on charges of treason and aiding and abetting a terrorist organisation for mediating coal purchases for the separatist, Russia-backed Donetsk republic in eastern Ukraine.
