Sunday's virtual meeting is being hosted by Germany's head of state, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
"They will discuss the latest developments in Russia's war against Ukraine, the global impact of Putin's war, showing support for Ukraine and Ukraine's future, and demonstrating continued G7 unity," said White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki onboard Air Force One.
"And our collective response, including building on our unprecedented sanctions to impose severe costs for Putin's war."
This comes as hundreds of civilians and Ukrainian fighters remain trapped at the plant and Russian forces have pushed their way inside.
The seizure of Mariupol is expected to play a central role in Moscow’s celebration on May 9 of Victory Day, historically marking the end of World War II.
Psaki was also asked about intelligence the United States is providing to Ukraine.
The U.S. has admitted to sharing intelligence with Ukraine about the location of the Russian missile cruiser Moskva before the strike that sank the warship, a high-profile embarrassment for Russia's military, but the Pentagon denied Friday that it played a direct role in the strike.
"We do provide a range of intelligence to help them understand the threat posed by Russian ships in the Black Sea and to help them prepare to defend themselves against potential sea based assaults," said Pskai.
"But they take our intelligence and they combine that with what they have access to. And so on this specific report, it's just not an accurate depiction of how this happened."
And America’s employers added 428,000 jobs in April, extending a streak of solid hiring that has defied punishing inflation, chronic supply shortages, the Russian war against Ukraine and much higher borrowing costs.
Last month’s hiring kept the unemployment rate at 3.6%, just above the lowest level in a half-century.
Employers have added at least 400,000 jobs for 12 straight months. Still, the job growth, along with steady wage gains, will help fuel consumer spending and likely keep the Federal Reserve on track to raise borrowing rates sharply to fight inflation.
