An official of Shanghai postal regulators said Thursday that more than a million orders for deliveries are coming every day. The official said the number was about one-sixth of that before the lockdown.
The suspension of delivery service left residents under lockdown in need of food, medicine and other daily necessities, and prompted complaints.
Shanghai health commission on Thursday reported 1,445 new cases over the past 24 hours and five new deaths, raising the death toll from the recent outbreak to 565.
Residents in Shanghai had to undergo multiple rounds of self-testing using antigen test kits, as well as nucleic acid tests, which has generated a large demand the kits.
Shanghai-based self-testing antigen kit producer Outdo Biotech told Shanghai Media Group (SMG) that by cooperating with a company in Wuhan, they are able to provide 3 million kits to Shanghai every day.
SMG reported due to the limited manpower and raw material, Outdo Biotech has a daily production capacity of 200,000 kits every day.
Tesla on Wednesday shipped 4,767 electric cars produced to Slovenia after its Shanghai factory resumed production on April 19, according to SMG.
Some vehicle manufacturers in the economic hub have adopted the "closed-loop" work mode requiring the workers to stay in their workplaces to reduce the risk of infection.
It is uncertain how long their production will be able to last because of China's border closure and the repeated transportation cut-off would disrupt the industry supply chain.
