as posted by the channelPope Francis on Wedneday appealed for an end to the grain shipment standoff in Ukraine, pleading for an all-out effort to prevent such an important commodity from being used "as a weapon of war."
Francis made the appeal at the end of his general audience.
He said he was greatly concerned that millions of tons of grain were being held up by the Russian blockade, depriving poor countries especially of such a basic foodstuff that is necessary to feed millions.
He said: "I appeal for everyone to do everything possible to resolve this question and guarantee the universal human right of being nourished."
"Please don't use grain, a basic food, as a weapon of war," he added.
