Hong Kong authorities did not explain their concerns about the comemorations of the history of the Chinese Communist Party's crackdown on Chinese people in 1989.
Dozens of police officers appeared at Victoria Park late on Friday evening.
The police officers walked through the football pitches in Victoria Park where every year in past decades, tens of thousands of people gathered peacefully to remember the suffering of Chinese people in 1989.
Hong Kong government's Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced the temporary closure of most of Victoria Park earlier Friday, covering the 4th of June Tiananmen anniversary.
Hong Kong authorities banned the peaceful gatherings in 2020 and 2021, citing COVID and now, most of the organisers of previous peaceful commemorations in Hong Kong are in prison.
Hong Kong police issued a threat Thursday in relation to this anniversary, warning people not to try to do anything to mark it which could be considered illegal.
Local leader Carrie Lam was asked about the June 4th anniversary earlier this week, and how it is possible to mark the anniversary nowadays in Hong Kong, but she did not respond with details.
The historic commemoration of Tiananmen 1989 is not likely to take place in Hong Kong this year. While Hong Kong authorities have not shared their concerns about this part of Chinese history, which Hong Kong people always used to be free to remember in public at Victoria Park.
