0:57Now PlayingIndia's External Affairs Ministry on Thursday said they were keeping a close watch on the UK's "internal developments," following the resignation of Prime Minister Boris Johnson amid a mass revolt by top members of his government.
Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said he hoped the "very close friendship" between the two countries would continue, with the UK "an important strategic partner with whom we have a multifaceted partnership and relationship."
Bagchi declined to comment directly on the leadership change.
Johnson's resignation marks an end to three tumultuous years in power.
He stepped down immediately as Conservative Party leader but said he would remain as prime minister until the party chooses his successor. The timetable for that process will be announced next week, Johnson said.
But many in the party want him gone before then, and his government has been shredded by scores of resignations.
