0:43Now PlayingPresident Joe Biden says he's "optimistic" that women will flock to the polls in November to make their voices heard on the abortion issue, which he says could ultimately lead to Congress codifying Roe v. Wade into law.
Biden made the comments during a White House meeting with state and local elected officials on protecting access to abortion.
The meeting designed to highlight the administration's efforts came on Women's Equality Day, two months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which ensured the federal right to abortions.
"You're going to hear women roar on this issue and it's going to be consequential," Biden said looking ahead to November. "The American people realize this is just beyond the pale."
Biden said Congress needs to codify Roe into law to ensure American women continue to have the right to have an abortion. But while that measure passed the House of Representatives, the attempt fell short in the Senate.
"The only way it's going to happen is that the American people make it happen in November," Biden said.
The president brushed off a question about concerns U.S. national security may have been breached through the boxes of documents recovered from former President Donald Trump's Florida estate earlier this year.
"We'll let the Justice Department determine that. We'll see what happens," Biden said.
